Relationships can be difficult. Whether you’re facing marriage, dating or other relationship issues, couples counseling provides a safe and supportive environment to reconnect, repair, and strengthen your relationship.
An important aspect of couples counseling is learning new skills that’ll benefit your relationship beyond the counseling sessions. Together with the help of your therapist, you and your partner will learn valuable relationship skills which include:
Patience and forgiveness
Trust and honesty
During individual therapy, you and your counselor will work together to develop and meet your individualized treatment goals through the use of a variety of effective therapeutic approaches and interventions tailored to you.
Individual counseling is helpful in addressing a number of issues, including:
PTSD & Trauma
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an evidence-based, scientifically-validated treatment commonly used to treat PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorder. EMDR works to reprocess unresolved traumatic memories or other adverse life experiences in order to decrease emotional distress and physiological arousal in response to stress. It can be effective in helping bring relief from an array of challenges and life stressors.
Cognitive Processing Therapy is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach used to treat PTSD that works to highlight the impact of thoughts on feelings and behaviors. CPT addresses the ways in which thoughts and beliefs surrounding traumatic experiences impact our perceptions of ourselves and the world. This evidence based approach helps clients to identify unhelpful and oftentimes unrealistic thought patterns that are keeping them stuck in their trauma and preventing them from healing.
Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms. Brainspotting is a simultaneous form of diagnosis and treatment, enhanced with Biolateral sound, which is deep, direct, and powerful yet focused and containing.
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders
Adjusting to parenthood can be a challenging process. While men and women often experience some mild mood changes during or after the birth of a child, as many as 20% of women experience significant symptoms of anxiety and depression. While the term “postpartum depression” is most commonly used, perinatal mood disorders include depression during pregnancy or postpartum, anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum, pregnancy or postpartum obsessive compulsive disorder, postpartum ptsd, bipolar mood disorders, and postpartum psychosis. Women of every culture, age, income level, and race can develop perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and with informed care, you can fully recover. Working with a professional trained in perinatal mental health can assist parents in adjusting to this new phase of life.
